It’s been some time since I last did a proper post on this blog. I have been on holiday on the Greek Island of Kos as some of you may know. Sandra and I were on an all inclusive deal at a lovely little hotel in a quiet rural area on the island. This was a great chance for me to really get to know her, but also practice some Greek with the bar tenders and other locals.
We went on a few excursions on our visit including;
a visit to a wine press, olive press then the mountain village of Zia (which was beautiful)
a visit to the ‘party’ town of Kardamena directed at Brit tourists.
and, a three island boat tour which took us to the likes of Pserimos and Kalymnos (both were absolutely stunning)
So yeah aside from this it was the typical holiday activities sun, sea, sand, swimming etc etc. I had a great time and will be sure to post up a few little sketches I did whilst out there over the next few days.
I came back early yesterday morning and spent most of the day just laying about with Sandra. Then came home, started painting the back of my door with these cool new paint markers that came through recently… As you do…
I’ll be sure to upload another shot when it’s more complete/ finished (if it ever will be) in full colour too.
I had a really long lie in this morning with no alarms or banging on the door at the last minute! So yes, the weekend, AND my break from work has started off great! Yesterday I tried out the ‘skin test’ for peroxide bleach and my skin started getting really irritated and burning up/turning red. Consequently I gave up on that form of doing it. So this morning I decided to try out a ‘natural’ method of doing this, as I do envisage it looking so cool!
So yes! I’ve had a look through the whole lame ten ways page on how this can be done
I’ve started with the salt method since the ingredients are pretty much all there. I’m currently sitting here at my desk with salty water dripping from my ends and a towel around my neck. I hope all this effort comes to something. I reckon it’ll be a long process using natural ingredients. We shall see.
If you stick around I’ll post up a picture of the hair when it does look cool, hopefully you won’t see burning red skin in the background though!
ANYHOW! Back to business.
This weekend is going to be somewhat of a rush again! I haven’t managed to work on my art much recently due to being so busy, and loads of friends being about, but hoping to do some stuff soon and show you all.
In the meantime I think I will post up some photos of my jewellery that I made a short while ago, that will be due to go up on etsy very very soon!
So today’s post is going to take the form of a rant, which I have a tendency to do especially if you were to ever meet me in person, you’d probably leave me thinking, ‘why the hell is she so damn angry about everything?’
I guess the way I see it is I do feel somewhat enlightened about certain things, and I definitely don’t pretend – I am very much transparent. I see no point in pretence and disguising true feelings about something… I am also always right. I JOKE OF COURSE. But really I’m an open minded alien who is always willing to hear people out, and try to understand the multiple facets of an issue. I feel that this does make my opinion have greater credibility, as it avoids the possibility of a tunnelvisioned approach to situations.
Anyway this rant is about something that I am truly passionate about and strive to eradicate,
…Racism & the flaws of political correctness
Now I do see racism as something that everyone experiences first hand, but not everybody is or can be the victim. I think that we all have our own prejudices, and even if we do deny them, they may manifest themselves in situations when least expected. Racism is most certainly a power greater than human intelligence as we do all have our own prejudices – regardless of whether they are shared/expressed.
This leads me to a further point about how incorrect the concept of political correctness is in dealing with a real world issue such as this and other forms of discrimination.
Political correctness is about hiding your true feelings because it will ‘offend somebody’. What I say to this is, why should you have to hide your feelings if there’s nothing truly wrong with what you think to start with. I think it’s more admirable to recognise why you’d need be ‘politically correct’ to start with and appreciate how your feelings are the actual bad thing.
It shouldn’t be about ‘how you present yourself’ to the outside world. Discrimination is about what is in your mind – and one way or another it will manifest itself and you may deny it and deny it, but it will manifest itself, maybe subtly.
Honesty is the best resolution.
I admire when someone reveals that they have racist thoughts.
And it is even more admirable when they go on and admit that it is something that is bad and they’d like to change the way they think.
We can only eradicate something if we admit to it being there – humans can’t go on living in denial.
Racism is an invented concept. Race is an invented concept.
Fuck this shit. I’m done.
‘Angry dark-skinned girl’ out. Watch out for me on the streets, I may bite, I’m a ‘monster’ hahaha
